This is an authentic Indian Jamaican recipe. Empanadas is a Spanish word for the same style of food. This dish was brought to Jamaica by the British originally called a "pastie"... The name evolved into the word "Patti" in Jamaica. The dough is bright yellow and has a slightly curry flavor, tumaric and curry in the dough is signature of the Jamaican meat pie, comes from the huge South Asian Indian influences my people brought to the Caribbean Islands . I have never had or seen eaten a form of meat pie from any other cultures that was yellow or tasted anything like the Jamaican Patti. Most Jamaican Patti are closed by pressing the edge with a fork indent. Some people think these beauties looked like Spanish empanadas or British Cornish pasties. Though they my have a plaited edge, my style of Jamaican Patti taste like an authentic Jamaican recipe. I am a Classically trained pastry chef for close to 30 years and I just really like pretty food. So I like to put pleats into my dough, I think the rope design looks cute and I like a little extra ring of crust.

Hi there! My name is Krishnaveni, and my Indo Caribbean culture and Healthy Comfort Food, are two of my passions in life. I strive for authentic and educational experiences through food. Food that inspires us in everyday life to want to know more about how the food we eat is grown, cared for and processed . Since launching my Organic Jamaican Bakery, I have been so excited to find so many others are searching for better sourced food options for themselves and their loved ones.
I spent over 25 years working as a fine dining pastry chef with some of the most exclusive ingredients in the world while learning the ins and outs of the industry hands on. During that time I learnt that most of us don't know what's in the foods that we are putting in our bodies.. Today my education in Plant Ecology and Botany, my experience in the culinary industry and my love for my South Asian Indian Jamaican culture is packed into every pastry I create.
THE SERVSAFE FOOD PROTECTION MANAGER CERTIFICATION
The ServSafe Manager Certification verifies that a manager or person-in-charge has sufficient food safety knowledge to protect the public from foodborne illness. Individuals that successfully pass the 90-question, multiple-choice exam will receive a ServSafe Manager Certification and wallet card. The ServSafe Manager Certification is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) under the Conference for Food Protection Standards.
The ServSafe Food Protection Manager course (CFPM) and certification educate food service managers regarding the dangers of foodborne illness. The ServSafe Food Protection Manager’s coursework meets the requirements as set forth by ANI and CFP and meets reliable standards of legal defensibility and validity.
The ServSafe Food Protection Manager verifies to an employer that the person they hire to possess sufficient knowledge of food safety to protect the public from illnesses caused by foodborne germs. Coursework includes the essential issues of basic personal hygiene, sanitation, food safety, temperature, and time, to name a few.
The Food Manager Certification designates a CA state requirement mandating that at least one employee or owner per food establishment passes an accredited food safety examination
